Welcome to The Gentry Shop. We would like to use this opportunity to say thanks to each and every one of you for your patronage and support. Our store is blessed to have so many close relationships with our customers, and we appreciate all you’ve contributed to our growth in the community.
Who would have thought 60 years ago I’d be here today writing a letter acknowledging this momentous occasion, obviously I didn’t think so. Let’s look back to 1948 for a minute...
Harry S. Truman is the President (no VP by the way), unemployment is 3.9% and the cost of a stamp is 3 cents. On the Big Screen, Laurence Olivier wins the Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in “Hamlet,” and Tennessee Williams receives a Pulitzer Prize for “A Street Car Named Desire.”
In sports Ben Hogan wins the US Open, Citation wins the Kentucky Derby, Michigan goes 9-0-0 to win the NCAA Championship and Cleveland defeats the Boston Braves (4-2) in the World Series.
In 1948 the future Beaver Cleaver is born, along with Ted Nugent and Ozzie Osborn; I wonder if it had something to do with the water... what a year!
The old adage that change occurs with or without willing participants couldn’t ring truer. Change is a constant and we have embraced it throughout our 60 years. Relocations, renovations, new customers, new staff, and of course the ebb and flow of Fashion.
I would like to think that 60 years ago when Clarence Mickelson started the business out of a little 400 square foot shop, he could never have imagined what 60 years from then would look like. I do think that the foundation of customer service, passion and pride were born on opening day, and these cornerstones of our business resonate stronger today, and will for many years to come.
On behalf of our entire family, we wish to thank each and every customer we have had the pleasure to service, laugh, cry, and share a good story or two with - to all of you, here’s another 60 Years!
